On May 8, 2018, the Russian post issued a stamp dedicated to the Battle for the Caucasus ias part of the Way to the Victory series.
The Battle of the Caucasus (25 July1942 – 9 October 1943) was a series of military operations of the Nazi German, Romanian and Slovakian troops against the USSR for control over the Caucasus during the Great Patriotic War. The battle had two stages: the German offensive (25 July – 31 December 1942) and the Soviet counterattack (1 January – 9 October 1943).
On the postage stamp created by the artist Sergei Ulyanovskiy, is depicted a bas-relief with a group of Soviet soldiers fighting in the Caucasus during the Great Patriotic War.
The stamp was issued in sheets with decorated fields of 7 stamps and a coupon (2 × 4).
Cavalry in the Battle for the Caucasus
The 17th Kuban Cossack Cavalry Corps participated in the Battle for the Caucasus as part of the North Caucasian Front. The cavalrymen participated in many military operations, including the Armaviro-Maykop defensive operation, the defense of long-range approaches to Tuapse.
