On June 26, 2023, the Moroccan Post issued a series of postage stamps in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Horse.
The Moroccan Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Horse (SOREC) was founded in 2003. Its main goal is to preserve horses and equestrian traditions as a national heritage, as well as the comprehensive development of horse breeding and equestrian sports in the country.
The Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Horse not only initiated this postal issue, the company's employees took a direct part in the creation of postage stamps. A competition was announced among SOREC employees for the best drawing of a postage stamp. 20 candidates reached the finals of the competition, the creative works were evaluated by a jury that included representatives of the post office, SOREC managers and famous designers. The winner of the competition was Yousra Beddaou, digital marketing manager at SOREC, and it was her drawing that was later turned into a postage stamp.
The Yousra Beddaou stamp reflected the three main activities of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Horse: breeding horses, organizing horse racing and maintaining equestrian traditions such as the Moroccan Tbourida or Fantasia.
The presentation ceremony of the new postage stamp took place at the Moroccan Postal Museum in Rabat in the presence of Amin Benjelloun Touimi, Director General of Barid al-Maghrib (the national postal operator) and SOREC Director General Omar Skalli. He noted that horses are an integral part of Moroccan history and are a national treasure.
The issue of a postage stamp in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Horse is recognition of SOREC's services to the development of horse breeding, a tribute to the values promoted and the enthusiasm with which the company has carried out its work for 20 years.
It is worth noting that the Moroccan Post, for its part, has always actively participated and continues to participate in the popularization of the equestrian theme, regularly issuing postage stamps related to the world of horses. For example, in 2017 and 2012, stamps were issued dedicated to horse exhibitions in El Jadida. In 1988 and 1986, the post office celebrated “Horse Week” with stamps, and in 1970, the traditional equestrian holiday “Fantasy”. In 2004, 1981 and 1967, series dedicated to equestrian sports were released.
