On June 30, 2023, the Moldovan Post issued the "Sport" series, consisting of 2 postage stamps.
To develop the theme, the Moldovan Post chose rather unusual sports disciplines: equestrian sports and aeronautics. But thanks to this, the collections of horse lovers were replenished with a beautiful postage miniature dedicated to dressage.
Dressage and show jumping are the two main types of equestrian sports that are actively developing in Moldova. Back in Soviet times, in 1956, the Republican School of Equestrian Sports and Modern Pentathlon was opened in Chisinau, which became the most prestigious sports school in the country. It successfully continues its activities today, preparing international athletes for dressage and show jumping competitions. Every year, the Republican School hosts the Moldovan Dressage Championship, as well as the Dressage Championship for Young Horses.
The postage stamp with a face value of 3.30 lei under the general title "Hipism" depicts dressage competitions. When creating the stamp, designer Eugeniu Verebceanu used a photograph of Oxana Darii on a horse named Pegasus. Oxana Darii is an international master of sports in dressage, champion of Moldova, winner of various international competitions.
Oxana Darii is not only a famous athlete, she is also a police officer. In Chisinau, the patrol and guard service regiment "Skut" has a specialized equestrian platoon, where Oxana Darii is an instructor.
In addition, Oxana Borisovna is an active coach of the Republican School of Equestrian Sport and Modern Pentathlon. Under her guidance, young athletes learn equestrian sport and improve their dressage skills. By the way, a photograph of graduates of the equestrian school: Alina Darii, Lina Boiarscaia, Ecaterina Echim and Valeria Ghicovoi were used in the design of the upper field of the stamp sheet.
So this issue can be considered not only as a tribute to the beauty and elegance of dressage competitions, but also as recognition of the merits of the Republican School of Equestrian Sports and Modern Pentathlon, its coaches and students in the development of national equestrian sports in Moldova.
The postage stamps were issued in small sheets of 6 stamps (2 x 3) with artistic design of the fields. On the first day of the issue, the stamps were cancelled with a special postmark, the post office also prepared a colorful first day cover.
