About stamps and plots
15.08.2020

On August 15, 2020, the Jersey Post issued a series of postage stamps in honor of of HRH Princess Anne's 70th birthday.

HRH Princess Anne, the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, was born on 15 August 1950. She was educated at Benenden Private School. Immediately after graduation, Princess Anne took up the duties of a member of the royal family: participation in official ceremonies and events, meetings with politicians and public figures. The princess devotes a lot of time to charity, leads the organization "Save the Children" and the Royal Princess Fund, is a member of the Royal Society and the Academy of Medical Sciences.

In honor of Princess Anne's anniversary, Jersey Post has released a set of 6 postage stamps and the souvenir sheet. The stamps feature photographs of Princess Anne taken during various official social and sporting events. Angela Jamon, spokeswoman for the Jersey Post, noted that the photographs for the stamps were carefully selected to reflect the princess's active philanthropic work and dedication to her duties, as well as her equestrian career.

Princess Anne has been involved in equestrian sports since childhood, adopting her mother's love for horses. In 1971 she won the European Eventing Championship in the individual event. The princess also took part in the European Equestrian Championships in 1973 in Kiev and in 1975 in Lumülen, where she took third place in the individual and individual event. In 1976, Princess Anne competed in the Montreal Olympics and finished 24th in the individual eventing event. The rider showed an unbending spirit. During the competition, she fell out of the saddle, being injured, but still insisted on finishing the race. In 1986-1994 Princess Anne was president of the International Equestrian Federation, since 1988 she is a member of the International Olympic Committee.

An 88 pence postage stamp depicts Princess Anne riding a Goodwill horse during the 1976 Montreal Olympics. On the souvenir sheet, the princess rides her beloved Goodwill again during the show jumping competition at the European Eventing Championships in Lumulen in September 1975.

Despite the fact that close-ups of horses are present only on these two stamps, there are two more stamps in this series that are also related to our theme. The £ 1.05 stamp shows a princess in the uniform of a colonel on horseback during the Trooping the Color ceremony in London in 1999, showing the reins in her hand in the corner of the stamp. A photograph of the £ 1.18 stamp was taken while the princess visited the Ascot racetrack in 2019 on the first day of the Royal Ascot race.
