October 16, 2020 U.S. Postal Service has issued a series of stamps "Winter Scenes".
Serene winter landscapes, calm animals and birds against the backdrop of snow-covered branches. So it seems that winter is not only a season, but also a state of mind.
For a series of 10 postage stamps, designer Derry Noyes used photographs from various authors that captured the beauty of winter nature.
All landscape photos with views of nature and snow-covered buildings, as well as a photo with a pair of horses, were taken by photographer Lisa Lacasse. The other five photos were sourced from Shutterstock by Lisa Carter, Edgar Lee Espe, Melani Wright, Malachi Ives and Gerald A. DeBoer A. DeBoer.
Lisa Lacasse's landscape photographs were taken in Quechee, Vermont. In the same place, at the small ski resort of Quechee Ski Hill, a photograph of a pair of horses harnessed to a sleigh was taken.
Meet local celebrities - Belgian Draft horses Mike and Bert. They work in Quechee, every day leisurely carrying skiers in a sleigh from the base to the ski lifts on the slope.
According to Lisa Lacasse, this is far from the first photograph of Mike and Bert, it is difficult for a photographer to pass by this colorful couple and she has been photographing them for several years. This photo has an unusual angle, it was shot from the front and slightly from the bottom. Thanks to this, you can see the fluffy snow that rises from under the horse's hooves and creates the feeling that the horses are moving directly at you and a little more and they will literally run out of the photo.
When creating a postage stamp, the designer processed the original photo. He lightened the background so that the image of the driver and the house in the background almost disappeared. At the same time, the photo has become more contrasting and the gaze is immediately focused on a pair of horses against a neutral light background.
The postage stamps were issued in double-sided booklets of 20 stamps each. Also, the US post has developed a special postmark, which was used to cancellation stamps on the first day of issue.
