Date Meets ZIP
U.S. Post Offices across the nation are holding “Date meets ZIP” events, commemorating rare occasions when the calendar aligns with a local ZIP Code.
Such coincidences are quite rare and they are always marked by local post offices and are accompanied by the issuance of a special commemorative postmark.
Middleburg, VI — ZIP Code 20118
For the first and only time this century, Middleburg’s ZIP Code 20118 will match the date on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018. (2/01/18)
The Middleburg Post Office, located at 113 W Washington Street, will offer a special postmark to commemorate the event. Residents and businesses are invited to bring their own postcards, letters or purchase items from the Middleburg Post Office and have it stamped with the commemorative postmark to mark the occasion. The postmark will be available for 30 days after the event.
“We are honored to serve Middleburg and be a proud member of this community,” said Middleburg Postmaster Ken Quinn. “We welcome customers to stop by Thursday and join us in celebrating this unique event in our town.”
A special postmark depicts the silhouette of a horse. This is due to the fact that since the early 1900s, Middleburg began welcoming visitors who participated in foxhunting and steeplechasing. The village soon earned a reputation as the "Nation's Horse and Hunt Capital", attracting prominent visitors from across the U.S. Middleburg is the home of National Sporting Library research center for horse and field sports, which publishes Thoroughbred Heritage on the Internet. A new addition is being made to include an art gallery and museum.
