On July 20, 2018, the post of Uruguay issued a postage stamp in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Charanga "Grito de Asencio".
The charanga is a military musical ensemble composed of aerophone instruments of the metal family, with the rhythmic accompaniment of kettledrums. Currently the Charanga Grito de Asencio is the only one of the country that executes mounted on horseback and one of the few existing in the world.
The Charanga Grito de Asencio of the Blandengues Regiment of Artigas de Caballería Nº 1 was created on January 9, 1918 by decree of the Executive Power.It adopted the name of Grito de Asencio in 1996, inspired by the cry sent by the countrymen Pedro Viera and Venancio Benavidez on the banks of Arroyo Asencio, in the department of Soriano, on February 28, 1811. With that symbolic gesture began whatthat is known as an emancipatory deed or Admirable alarm.
The stamp's presentation was held in the Artigas Blandengues Regiment No. 1 of Cavalry.
