On August 10, 2018, Russian Post released a block dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of the writer I.S. Turgenev.
Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev (1818–1883) was an outstanding Russian realist writer. One of the classics of Russian literature, who made the most significant contribution to its development in the second half of the 19th century. In his work, Ivan Sergeevich raised issues of social structure, moral life, and the psychology of relationships; he created images of representatives of society that were characteristic of his time. The writer achieved extraordinary mastery in depicting the beauty of Russian nature.
The famous Russian artist Georgy Georgievich Shishkin depicted a portrait of I.S. Turgenev and images of heroes from the writer's works on the block. On the right side of the block is an illustration for the story "Bezhin Meadow" from the "Sketches of a Hunter" cycle. Peasant children, sitting by a night fire, tell stories, a herd of horses grazing nearby. The artist's delicate pastel works, it seems to me, are wonderfully combined with the writer's lyrical stories, filled with love for Russian nature.
In addition to the release of the postal block, a first-day cover was issued and first-day postmarks for Moscow and Orel were made, as well as an insert for the artistic cover.
