Liechtenstein. Christmas
About stamps and plots

On November 11, 2019, the Post of the Principality of Liechtenstein issued 4 postage stamps dedicated to Christmas.

Designer Sereina Hatt chose traditional Christmas tree decorations as the theme for this Christmas episode. Stylized images of a snowman, a nutcracker, a rocking horse and a little angel adorn the postage stamps. The snowman symbolizes winter and snowy Christmas. In many European countries, especially in Germany, the Nutcracker is generally a symbol of Christmas. After World War II, this toy crossed the ocean and became popular in America because American soldiers returning home from the war often brought it as a souvenir. A high-quality rocking horse was a rather expensive toy and only wealthy families could afford it. Therefore, such a horse is not only a welcome Christmas present for many children, but also a symbol of dreams. The little angel on the tree is a heavenly messenger and a reminder of the biblical story of Christmas.
The stamps were issued on self-adhesive paper in small sheets of 20. The Liechtenstein post also prepared first day cover and maximum cards; on the day of publication, postage stamps were canceled with a special postmark.
