From 8 to 12 November 2022, the International Stamp Exhibition "Cape Town 2022" was held in South Africa.
More than 300 exhibits from 47 countries of the world were presented at the exhibition. The exhibition "Cape Town 2022" has an international status and is held under the patronage of FIP.
Almost 70 exhibits belonged to the Literature class. These are various printed catalogues, philatelic magazines, monographs and publications. Recently, in the Literature class, a separate subsection has been allocated for digital publications and websites. At Cape Town 2022, in the "Literature, Digital, Websites & Software" class, only 12 exhibits from 7 countries (South Africa, Canada, Portugal, Greece, Russia, Germany and India) were presented.
The digital resources presented at the exhibition were very different in style and content. There were a couple of thematic sites, there were news blogs about postage stamps, there were several projects presenting the results of research on rather narrow areas of philately (varieties of stamps and Meter stamps) and digitized personal collections, as well as company websites (ITC "Marka" and MICHEL Online).
Horse-themed exhibits
The site "Horses on Stamps" also participated in the exhibition in Cape Town and received a score of 85 points out of 100 possible and, accordingly, was awarded the Garge Vermeil Medal. The literary class was judged by a jury headed by Jiri Sedlak from the Czech Republic.
It is worth noting that there was another exhibit dedicated to horses at the exhibition. In the "Thematic Philately - Nature" class, the exhibit "Tell me the horse" prepared by Louisa Hamon from France was exhibited. The exhibit received the Big Gold Medal with 87 points.
Evaluation of exhibits at philatelic exhibitions
At philatelic exhibitions, exhibits are not compared with each other, each exhibit is evaluated individually according to several criteria, assigning a certain number of points. So for websites and electronic publications there are 4 main criteria:
1) Treatment of content (the maximum possible number of points is 40).
2) Originality and depth of research (40 points).
3) Technical implementation (15 points).
4) Appearance and presentation (5 points).
The total score of the exhibit is formed from the sum of the points scored and, accordingly, this or that medal is awarded.
