On October 25, 2021, Belgium Post issued the traditional 2-stamp Christmas series.
Every year at the end of October, Belgium Post issues two Christmas stamps: one for sending letters around the country, the other for letters to Europe.
Illustrator Stephanie Dehennin was responsible for creating the Christmas mood on the stamps this year. Stephanie later said that it was a very difficult task: creating something new with a Christmas theme is not easy at all. The artist did some real research and looked at hundreds of photographs of antique Christmas decorations. Her idea was to find a common denominator for the series of stamps, her own interpretation of the Christmas symbols.
As a result, Stephanie settled on Christmas tree decorations, because they welcome us every Christmas. Every year, when people hang these cute trinkets on the tree, they feel joyful anticipation of the holiday. And it doesn't matter at all whether these toys are old or completely new, they seem to exist outside of time, being for many the quintessence of New Year and Christmas.
Against the background of dense spruce branches, the artist depicted a wooden figurine of an angel on a rocking horse and a pair of glass Christmas balls of bright colors. Vintage-looking toys look modern thanks to the style in which they were painted by Stephanie Dehennin. These are computer graphics, sketches were drawn from beginning to end on a computer.
Now these little Christmas gifts from the Belgian post, pasted on letters and greeting cards will fly all over Belgium or go to some European country.
The stamps were printed in booklets on self-adhesive paper. Also bpost has prepared special postmarks. The cancellation of the first day took place in Brussels and in Marche-en-Famenne.
