In 1919, the first regular police unit was established in the municipality of Manama. In 1929, it was transformed into a more modern look. In 1971, after gaining independence (the country was previously under British protectorate), the Bahrain police was renamed the as the Minisrty of Interior. Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa was appointed minister. Bahrain's Ministry of Internal Affairs is responsible for ensuring law and order and public safety in the country. The current Interior Minister is Lieutenant General Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, who has been in office since 2004. He is a member of the Al Khalifa royal family and a cousin of King Hamad.
The postage stamps of the series depict police detachments in different historical periods. On the right side of the stamp is the portrait of His Majesty the King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, on the left is the new logo of the Ministry of Interior. The background for the three stamps of the series is the image of the headquarters of the Ministry of Interior - the historical building of the Court Fort, now better known as the Police Fort.
