On January 22, 2025, Ukrainian Post issued a series of postage stamps "Ukrainian Folk Costumes: Kursk, Belgorod, Kuban".
The new issue of stamps depicts the traditional clothing of Ukrainians living in Kuban, Belgorod and Kursk region. It is a continuation of the well-known series "Ukrainian Folk Costumes", launched by Ukrposhta in 2001.
Each stamp depicts a family in traditional clothing on a holiday: Kursk residents on St. Evdokia's Day, Belgorod residents on Easter and Kuban Cossacks on Radonitsa.
St. Evdokia's Day or Avdotya Vesnovka according to the people is celebrated on May 30. From this day on, nature begins to awaken, so all traditions and rituals were associated with the "calling" of spring and warmth. Women baked special bread in the shape of birds, symbolizing the arrival of birds. People went out into the streets, sang songs, danced in circles and called for spring to come quickly.
Bright Easter is the most important Christian holiday, which symbolizes the victory of life over death. On this day, Easter services and religious processions take place. Easter cakes, eggs and other holiday foods are blessed in churches.
Radonitsa is a special day in the Orthodox calendar dedicated to the remembrance of the dead. In Kuban, where faith is closely intertwined with Cossack customs, this holiday is always celebrated with special trepidation. On Radonitsa, Kuban residents visit cemeteries, pray for the repose of the souls of their loved ones and gather for a memorial meal and remember the fallen soldiers. In the villages, in memory of the fallen Cossacks, prayers were sometimes held at mass graves or horse processions were organized.
The stamps of the series, created by the honored artist of Ukraine Mikolai Kochubey, remind us of the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of the inhabitants of these regions.
The stamps were issued in small sheets, consisting of 8 stamps and a coupon with artistic design of the fields. The denomination "U" corresponds to the tariff for sending a domestic simple letter weighing up to 50 grams or a postcard.
Also, the Ukrainian Post produced First Day Covers and a special postmark, which was used to cancel stamps on the first day of issue.
