On January 6, 2020, the Post of Monaco issued a postage stamp in honor of the International Circus Festival in Monte Carlo.
In 2020, the 44th International Circus Festival will be held in Monte Carlo from January 16 to 26. The festival has been held annually since 1974 and every year the Post of Monaco issues a postage stamp in honor of the event.
The € 1.40 postage stamp features a circus poster for the 44th Festival, designed by artist Alain André. If last time, horses were barely visible on the poster, this year our patience has been rewarded. The stamp is decorated with a beautiful black stallion, freely galloping around the circus arena. He has no bright blankets, no shiny harness, no plume of feathers, he is adorned only with a mane fluttering from a fast run and a shiny skin. A place of honor will be given at this year's Horse Festival.
Today, just like many years ago, the strength and grace of horses fascinate audiences of all ages. And do not forget that the circus owes its origin to the equestrian arenas where famous riders performed. The horse was the first circus animal and today, 250 years later, equestrian numbers are still part of the program of almost any large circus.
The International Circus Festival in Monte Carlo, organized in 1974 by Prince Rainier III of Monaco, has become the largest and most significant circus event in the world.
Only the best circus acts from different countries take part in this Festival every year. The main award of the Golden Clown Festival is the most prestigious prize in the world of the circus.
