Botswana. Crossing Rivers in Botswana
About stamps and plots
05.11.2017

November 5, 2017, Botswana's post issued an unusual series of 4 stamps and a miniature sheet: "Crossing the rivers in Botswana." Crossed on the other side of the river in Botswana can be not only on boats, but also on jeeps and even horses.

Crossing the Thamalakane

The Thamalakane River is located at the southern end of the Okavango Delta in Botswana. It has no well-defined beginning (spring) and no clear end (delta). It is the result of the Thamalakane fault - which began to form about two million years ago by the geological process of rifting that is currently splitting Africa apart along the East African Rift.

The Thamalakane River is considered one of the best places to do horseback safaris and one can enjoy the richness of Botswana’s wildlife. The horse riding tours usually involve exploration around the water banks and riding across the calm waters of the river.

BotswanaPost maintains a conservative issuing policy. Commemorative sets are normally issued 4 or 5 times per year, illustrating themes that reveal the environmental, cultural and historical heritage of Botswana.
