On October 9, 2018, Colombia Post issued a souvenir sheet dedicated to pets as part of the “America Upaep” 2018 series
The Postal Union of the American States, Spain and Portugal (Upaep) is an intergovernmental organization within the Universal Postal Union, founded in 1911. Previously known as the South American Postal Union and the Pan-American Postal Union. In its current form and composition, it has existed since 1990, when Portugal joined the Union.
Similar to the “Europe” issue, since 1985, the postal administrations that are part of the Union have also issued an annual series of postage stamps as part of the joint project “America — UPAEP”. Each year, a specific common theme is chosen for the UPAEP series stamps.
In 2018, the theme of the UPAEP issue was pets. Colombia Post issued a numbered souvenir sheet containing 2 stamps with a face value of $ 4,000.
The colorfully illustrated block probably features all the domestic animals that can be found on farms: cows, sheep, goats, piglets and rabbits, as well as poultry. And, of course, such an issue could not ignore horses: a funny mare with a foal are located on a green lawn in front of the farm.
The block was issued in a print run of 24,358 copies. Designer: M. Moore, stamps were printed in France by Cartor Security Printing. In addition to the block, a special postmark, a first-day cover and a folder with an information booklet were prepared. The cancellation took place on October 9 in Bogota.
