On May 5, 2020, the post of Belarus issued 2 postage stamps under the Europe program. Ancient post routes.
Artist Tatyana Kuznetsova developed the design of stamps based on materials from the Belpochta Historical Information Center of Postal Service in cooperation with the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
The need for messaging and document delivery dates back to ancient times. Already in the Middle Ages, postal routes were developed, moving along which foot and horse messengers delivered mail at all the speed possible at that time.
The stamp with the face value "H" depicts a hurrying equestrian messenger, the background for the stamp is a map with the marked post route Vilnius - Molodechno - Minsk - Borisov - Drutsk - Orsha - Smolensk. This route was established for messengers and messengers by the Grand Duke of Lithuania Zhigimont the Old in 1528.
On the second stamp of the series, with the denomination "P", we see a pedestrian messenger with a roadway in his hands. The background is a map with the route Krakow - Warsaw - Grodno - Vilnius, approved by the Grand Duke of Lithuania Stephen Bathory in 1583. This postage stamp is also interesting because it uses augmented reality technology: when you hover a smartphone camera running the AR MARKA BELARUS application at a postage stamp, an animated image of the postal messenger appears.
In addition to the stamps, a miniature sheet of 4 stamps was issued, two of each denomination with the decoration of the fields. The Post of Belarus has also prepared a first day cover and postcards for maximum cards. On the first day of publication in the Minsk Post Office No. 1, postage stamps were canceled with a special postmark.
