Farm Animals - The Oldenburg horse
The stamps in the Farm Animals issue depict animals which all received prizes at the agricultural shows in either Herning or Roskilde.
The Oldenburg horse dates back to sixteenth-century Oldenburg. The Oldenburg horse was originally bred as a carriage horse, but has since become a popular riding horse. Denmark is one of the only countries in the world to breed pure Oldenburgs – including the Oldenburg stallion called Galant Hornbæk, which won the prize of honour at the Roskilde agricultural show before running off with the ultimate accolade “Zealand’s Prize Stallion”. Unfortunately, the Oldenburg stallion featured on the stamp died last summer, but is now immortalised on a postage stamp.
