Krautsand Island. 375 years since the first settlement (1620–1995)
Krautsand Island is a picturesque corner of the Elbe, belonging to the municipality of Drochtersen, Lower Saxony. Situated between Hamburg and Cuxhaven, the island has an area of about 24 km². Beautiful sandy beaches, views of passing ships, the clean Elbe River, unique nature with pastures, gardens and old harbours make the island of Krautsand on the Elbe very attractive for living and recreation. Equestrian tourism is very popular on Krautsand, horses, mainly Icelandic ponies, graze freely on the island pastures. Local horse farms offer horse rental and boarding services. On Krautsand, you can ride on the dam or the numerous paths of the island. The love for horses is reflected in the modern coat of arms. It depicts a pair of horses, along with a lighthouse and a sailing ship. |
