City Bad-Rappenau

Bad Rappenau is a spa town in the state of Baden-Württemberg (district of Heilbronn).

The modern settlement was first mentioned in documents as Rappenaw in the 14th century. In the 19th century, after the discovery of salt deposits, the town received a significant boost in development as a spa resort with therapeutic baths and brine baths.

The image of a horse on the postmark is associated with the official symbols of the town. The coat of arms of Bad Rappenau: a black horse rearing on a blue shield on a gold field.

According to one theory, the name "Rappenau" derives from the German word "Rappe," meaning "dark horse."
