San Marino. International Day of Sport
About stamps and plots
26.02.2019

On February 26, 2019, the post of San Marino released a series of 4 stamps dedicated to the International Day of Sport.

The International Day of Sport for development and peace is celebrated annually on April 6 in commemoration of the first Olympic games of today. The UN General Assembly proclaimed the International day of sport on August 23, 2013. Sport is the strength of spirit, health, and cohesion; it is a universal language uniting not only people but also whole countries. Sport not only promotes health, but also fosters respect for such values as mutual respect and fairness, and the athletes at all times valued team spirit and fair play.

Professional athletes and sports fans consider April 6 as their holiday. Various public and charitable organizations, as well as governmental structures, participate in the organization of sports events. On this day the sports clubs arrange show performances, marathon races, cycling, games, and organize other competitions. They remember the great athletes and world records, talk about the unifying ability of sports.

In San Marino, the Post was also involved in this process: a series of postage stamps dedicated to the International Day of Sport for development and peace was designed and issued. In the series, the artist Riccardo Guasco depicted the participants of the cycling race, weightlifter, swimmers, and horse-riders. The stamp with equestrian sports, I think, is the most successful in terms of realization of the basic idea of release - athletes do not compete in it, and shake hands, - a clear example of mutual respect and sports consent.

Stamps, made in the original artistic manner, were released in small sheets of 12 stamps (3 x 4), the field of a small sheet decorates the additional illustration on the subject.
