About stamps and plots

On January 22, 2020, the Finnish Post issued the "Colors of Friendship" series, consisting of 6 postage stamps.

Friendship enlivens our life, makes it brighter and fills it with positive emotions. Friendship is incredible, people become close friends without being tied by family or romantic relationships, just because they enjoy each other's company. It's wonderful when people keep friendships for years.

Friendship can take on new shades at different ages, but the essence remains the same: the desire to share the joys and sorrows of life with your friends, - the representative of the Finnish post Johanna Rouhe commented on the issue of postage stamps. Valentine's Day is approaching - it's time to remember your friends, relatives and loved ones and send them congratulations in advance. In 1987, Finland Post, together with the Red Cross, launched a friendship day campaign and since then Valentine's Day in Finland is the second most popular occasion after Christmas for sending greeting cards and letters.

Samuli Siirala is a talented and versatile designer, mainly creating illustrations for magazines and advertising campaigns. The "Colors of Friendship" series of postage stamps is his first experience of cooperation with the post. According to Samuli Siirala, the general style of the release was determined by both technical requirements and his personal preferences. Due to the small size of the stamps, the artist minimized detailing, made the images larger and posters, with a slight retro flavor.

The stamps are issued in a booklet on self-adhesive paper, while the stamps have an uneven shape with decorative edges. On the first day of publication, stamps were canceled with a special postmark with the image of merry-go-round horses.
